Happy Flag Day - 2011

Thought you might like some history of "Flag Day".
On June 14, 1777, the second Continential congress adopted a flag with 13 stripes and 13 stars to represent the one nation, one star for each of our founding colonies.
The stars were set upon a blue field, in the words of the Congress' resolution, "representing a new constellation" in the night sky.
Flag Day began being celebrated as early as 1885. In a 1914 Flag Day address, Franklin K. Lane, Secretary of The Interior repeated words he said the flad had spoken to him that morning. "I am what you make me, nothing more; I swing before your eyes as a single gleam of color, a symbol of yourself."
May 30, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson established Flag Day as the anniversary of the Flag Resolution of 1777 by proclamation. However, it was not until August 3, 1949 that President Harry Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14 of each year as, "National Flag Day."
